What is it about the great outdoors that brings us back to childhood? To the innocence and freedom, the wild silliness, the peace that came with a simpler view of the world? I’m not sure that I can answer that question, exactly, but I can see it reflected in these photos. They tell a beautiful story of love and dedication, of enduring joy….and the inevitable laughter that results from potty humor. 🤣

Didn’t want you to think that I’d lost touch with reality while waxing poetic. 😉 I tend to care less about what littles say that prompts the genuine laughter, than I do of capturing that moment, that perfect moment afterwards when their joy is too big to contain and they have to let it out through giggles. I adore those moments. Those are the moments that belong on a gallery wall, so kids can grow up knowing where, and to whom, they belong. Seeing, and remembering who they were with when all these moments of their lives eddied around them.

One of my favorite settings for family sessions like this are the rolling green hills of Eldon Farms in Rappahannock County. The little lake, and the bales of hay are just a bonus. And the tent? Well, that just adds the perfect amount of classic nostalgia to help the story really shine.
